Cow

Cow is the second of three works about immortality. This work considers the idea of genealogical immortality, using a cow’s skull as it subject. A puppet body is used to anthropomorphise the figure, bringing its humanity closer, but ultimately feeling more alien than human. The cow figure shows an ouroboros tied in a trefoil knot, the snake being a symbol for the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, and the knot a symbol for infinity. The ouroboros has a deep cultural root, as it appears in multitudes of different historical and cultural contexts. The video reflects on this life cycle, and its evolutionary necessity. Immortality is the fundamental purpose of all life, and most beings achieve this through the birth.
